Four TIPS to help you quit FOR YOUR SURGERY:

1.  Tell you surgical team that you smoke. It is important that your doctors know that you smoke so that they can be prepared for potential problems. They can also provide support and encouragement, and refer you to other resources that can help.

2.  Tell your friends and family that you plan to quit for surgery. Their support and encouragement will be important - they want the best for you.

3. Try to quit smoking for as long as you can before surgery. Although even quitting just on the morning of surgery helps, the longer the better.

4. Remember that quitting around the time of surgery is one of the best things you can do to have a safe and smooth surgery. Many things about surgery are beyond your control - quitting is one thing that you can control and will help you do better.
